Grants and Awards
Post Doctoral Awards in Supportive and Palliative Cancer Care 2007
Macmillan Cancer Support is inviting applications for Post Doctoral Awards (PDAs) in supportive and palliative cancer care associated with the two National Cancer Research Institute (NCRI) Supportive and Palliative Care (SuPaC) Research Collaboratives, the Cancer Experiences Collaborative (CECo) and Complex Interventions: Assessment, Trials and Implementation of Services (COMPASS). The awards primarily provide funding for salaries with a small contribution towards research costs. Individuals working in any scientific discipline or sector who can demonstrate a role in, or contribution to, improving health, health care delivery or services for cancer are eligible.
A PDA offers 3 years full time funding or up to 5 years pro rata to individuals who have already obtained their doctoral degree but as yet do not have sufficient experience as independent researchers to build and lead their own research team. Applicants must show evidence of a clear commitment to a research career and success in the form of outputs from doctoral and post-doctoral research. This scheme will fund training awards to undertake research involving patients, data from patients, people who are not patients, populations and health services research but does not cover basic research.
This scheme will use application documentation and processes developed from the National Institute for Health Research (Department of Health) Personal Development Awards.
Two awards are available in 2007.
The Closing date for applications is Monday 8th October 2007
