Oncovideos – Developing vocational skills in Europe through e-learning

As the multidisciplinary, mutliprofessional cancer organisation in Europe, The European CanCer Organisation’s Education (ECCO) focuses on initiatives that cross disciplines and promote multidisciplinarity that meets the scientific, educational and professional needs of oncology professionals. Dr. Dirk Schrijvers (Antwerp, Belgium), is the Education Chair of ECCO.

Aimed at young oncologists in Europe, Oncovideos provides an on-line video library of that demonstrates standard procedures relating to the various oncology disciplines mainly: surgical oncology, radiotherapy, medical oncology, paediatric oncology and neuro-oncology. The videos include practical explanations made by experts in the specific subject area of each session. They were filmed in eighteen cancer teaching partner institutions.  Oncovideos is a unique cross discipline educational resource for the young oncologists in Europe who often lack practice-oriented training.

Each video features a leading expert from one of the cancer teaching institutions, performing and explaining a particular process. Each video lasts a maximum of 30 minutes. Both the topics and experts involved were selected by the European societies representing each specific oncology discipline: EANO, ESMO, ESSO, ESTRO and SIOPE.

All videos are accredited by the Accreditation Council of Oncology in Europe (ACOE), so that CME credit can be obtained.

Coordinated by ECCO, the Oncovideos project was funded with support from the European Commission and is freely available to all oncology healthcare professionals upon a simple registration process at www.ecco-org.eu/oncovideos   .
