Website Of The Month
Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine (ANZSPM)

Each month we publish one website that highlights how individuals, organizations, or countries attempt to get their message out about what it is we do in hospice/palliative care.

Australian and New Zealand Society of Palliative Medicine (ANZSPM) - ANZSPM is the speciality medical society that facilitates professional development and support for its members and promotes the practice of palliative medicine to improve the quality of care of patients with life threatening illnesses and provide support for their families.

ANZSPM's core business is to provide continuing professional development opportunities for our members who are palliative medicine specialists, palliative medicine trainees, and other doctors involved with palliative care - such as general practitioners, oncologists, haematologists, psychologists and geriatricians.

Our society embraces the definition of Palliative Medicine adopted in Great Britain in 1987. This is quoted in the opening pages in Doyle's Oxford Textbook of Palliative Medicine - "Palliative Medicine is the study and management of patients with active, progressive, far-advanced disease for whom the prognosis is limited and the focus of care is the quality of life".
