Thank you Kathy
It is in the nature of things that Chairmen work and achieve much without others being aware of it. That is most certainly the case with our Chairman, Kathy Foley, soon to remit office. We owe her a tremendous debt of gratitude.
She was a famous clinician, researcher, writer, academic and high-profile leader in the world of hospice and palliative care long before she was persuaded to take up office in IAHPC. All of these virtues she skillfully used to further our modest organisation, bringing it to the notice of fellow clinicians, explaining its work and financial needs to potential sponsors, building bridges between IAHPC and other oganisations, and using her standing with WHO to encourage the creation of a List of Essential Medicines for Palliative Care. We cannot begin to measure the long-term effects of all this work she did on our behalf.
We can, however, remember with deep gratitude her generosity in donating $ US 100,000, her prize from the Joy McCann Foundation, and dare we say it, her determination; long after she leaves her Chair, we shall benefit from her vision, influence and inspiration.
Thank you Kathy for all you have done and for being you!
Best wishes,
