Have you remembered that the deadline for the Spring 2008 selection for the UICC Yamagiwa-Yoshida Memorial International Cancer Study Grants (YY) is rapidly approaching?!

APPLICATION CLOSING DATE 1 January 2008 (Spring 2008 selection)

UICC Yamagiwa-Yoshida Memorial International Cancer Study Grants (YY) generously funded by the Japan National Committee for UICC, Toray Industries Inc, and Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co. Ltd., Japan

Target candidates: Investigators, clinicians, public health professionals
Duration: 3 months
Extension: up to 3 months, funding secured by the Fellow with no extra costs to UICC
Available: 14-16 per year
Average value: US$ 10,000 each
Funded by: Japan National Committee for UICC, Toray Industries Inc, Kyowa Hakko Kogyo Co. Ltd., Japan 
Application closing dates: 1 January, 2008
Notification of result: April

 Note: This is not a clinical training fellowship

Objectives

  • to initiate, set-up, or pursue bilateral cancer research projects with collaborating investigators abroad,
  • to exchange and exploit complementary skills and material,
  • to receive training in advanced experimental research methods and techniques.

Profile of eligible candidates

  • appropriate scientific or medical qualifications and experience,
  • active engagement in cancer research,
  • recent publications in the international peer-reviewed literature.

Research plan

  • basic, translational or applied cancer research.
    Prevention-oriented projects are especially encouraged.
    Twice-yearly competitive selections are conducted by an international panel of experts based on the
  • scientific evaluation of the research plan
  • experience and qualifications of the candidate
  • suitability of the host organisation and host supervisor
  • availability of appropriate facilities and resources to apply and disseminate the acquired skills upon return to the home organisation

India

The Christian Medical College, Vellore, India offers
Post Graduate Fellowship in Palliative Medicine

Doctors with post graduate qualifications/MBBS degree who wish to   advance palliative care development in India are invited to apply for a one year, full time residential course, which will cover the clinical, psychosocial and ethical aspects of palliative care; as well as teaching and leadership skills. The Fellowship is accredited by the Christian Medical College, Vellore. Candidates will gain clinical experience in a 2000 bedded teaching hospital, in-patient hospice and home care.

The application forms will be available in early 2008. 

Accommodation and stipend will be provided.
