International Program for Psycho-Social Health Research (IPP-SHR)

The International Program of Psycho-Social Health Research

The International Program of Psycho-Social Health Research (IPP-SHR) is a collaborative initiative jointly funded by the Nati on al Health and Medical Research Council and Central Queensland University. IPP-SHR’s core aim is to use research to examine and document the human experience of physical and mental illness, and ultimately make a difference in the real world of health care.

IPP-SHR is a broad program which addresses a wide range of health-related topic areas, both within Australia and overseas. These include: palliative care, hospice, haematology/oncology, mental health, acute medicine, bioethics, rural and remote health, Indigenous health, health promotion, spirituality, pediatrics, birth studies and service delivery evaluation.

IPP-SHR’s most recent publications include: Haematology and Palliative Care: Towards an Integrated Practice, a 14 page booklet which outlines factors contributing to the successful integration of palliative care into haematology practice; and “The Living ModelA Resource Manual for Indigenous Palliative Care Service Delivery, a book which presents an adaptable model for providing best practice palliative care services to Indigenous Australians.

IPP-SHR publishes a quarterly newsletter, Psycho-Social Update, which translates the latest academic research findings into user friendly summaries that can be used to inform health service delivery and policy. The newsletter also showcases the diversity of excellent psycho-social programs being run by practitioners and organisations world wide to assist people to deal with the many challenges associated with serious physical and/or mental illness.

In keeping with IPP-SHR’s goal of making a difference, IPP-SHR’s full catalogue of publications is available free-of-charge online. Hard copies of Haematology and Palliative Care: Towards an Integrated Practice and quarterly issues of Psycho-Social Update are available free-of-charge to any member of the IAHPC.

To subscribe to Psycho-Social Update, download free publications, or to order hard copies of IPP-SHR publications and information booklets please visit: www.ipp-shr.cqu.edu.au

India – Australia Collaboration, IRPC and IPP-SHR

A collaborative partner of IPP-SHR, the International Research Promotion Council (IRPC) is an international, non-government, non-profit registered charitable organisation that provides research and scientific incentives to assist socio-economic aspects of developing and under developed African, Asian and Pacific countries. The IRPC promotes research activities in the developed world and is positioned to make a substantial contribution to overcoming the barriers to research faced in developing countries.

IPP-SHR and the IRPC have formed a strong international collaboration and are currently engaged in research exploring at-home palliative care service delivery and community-based health promotion activities in Kerala, India.
