Health Policy is intended to be a vehicle for the exploration and discussion of health policy issues and is aimed in particular at enhancing communications between health policy researchers, legislators, decision-makers, and other professionals concerned with implementing health policy. The journal encourages the submission of original, empirically based, comparative and/or global studies. In order to achieve the journal's objectives, authors are encouraged to write in a non-technical style which is understandable to health policy practitioners and specialists from other disciplines.

A new, expanded publication resulting from a title merger of the Journal of Pharmaceutical Care in Pain & Symptom Control and The Hospice Journal. The first issue of this new quarterly Journal was published in March 2002 as Volume 16.
