Bio sketch: Qualified from Edinburegh Univesrity 1955. Spent 10 years as a missionary surgeon in South Africa then 10 as an associate specialist / family physician in Edinburgh. From 1968-77 helped plan Scotland's first hospice ' palliative care unit which opened in 1977. Medical Director 1977-95 (retired).
Founding first Chairman of the Association for Palliative Medicine of Gt Britain and Ireland.
Founding Editor in Chief of Palliative Medicine (first specialist journal on palliative care)
First Vice Chairman of the European Association for Palliative care
